Dec. 8, 1936: An article headlined, “Living Doll Pageant is Given for Toyery,” described a pageant of Living dolls, in which “thirty debutantes in costumes representing all the nations of the world paraded before the judges as dolls.” Miss Jane Will, above, was one of those dolls, presented at a luncheon for Toyery, Inc., a lending library of toys for underprivileged children. Miss Will did not win, however — that distinction went to Miss Kate Oglesby, “whose attire was that of a Chinese doll.” Photo: The New York Times
